This fish is the size of a nail but it makes a sound as loud as a bullet

There is a fish named Danionella cerebrum, which is transparent and is only 12 millimeters in size, but the surprising thing is that this fish can produce a sound louder than 140 dB. This sound is equal to the sound heard by a person standing 100 meters away from an airplane during flight.

There are many such creatures around the world, which have not just one but many species. Just like there are many species of snakes and scorpions, hundreds of species of fish are also found in the oceans and rivers around the world, but have you ever seen or heard a fish screaming? No, but today we are going to tell you about a fish, which makes such a loud sound that you will get scared after hearing it. The name of this fish is Danionella Cerebrum.

It is a translucent fish, which is very small in size, just 12 millimeters, i.e. equal to a nail, but you will be surprised to know that it can produce a sound louder than 140 dB, which is equal to the sound heard by a person standing 100 meters away from a passenger jet plane during flight.

It was discovered 43 years ago

According to a report by the website Oddity Central, this fish was originally identified in the 1980s, but the species was officially recognized in 2021 when scientists discovered subtle physical differences between it and Danionella translucida. Both these species of fish are so small and similar that the difference between them can only be identified with a microscope.

Expert in making loud noises

Recently, a team of researchers has discovered another interesting feature of Danionella cerebrum, which not only distinguishes Danionella translucida from fish but also puts it very high in the list of the world's loudest animals. Dr. Ralph Britz, an ichthyologist at the Senckenberg Natural History Collection, said, 'This small fish can produce a sound louder than 140 dB. This is equal to the sound that a human hears from an airplane flying at a distance of 100 meters and this is quite strange for an animal of such a small size.'

Interestingly, the female Danionella cerebrum fish cannot produce as loud a sound as the male Danionella cerebrum fish can.
