The 2024 Met Gala celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code was “The Garden of Time.” The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. Spanning over 400 years of fashion history, the pieces will include designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy, and more. Some garments that are too fragile to ever be worn again—such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877—will also be displayed via video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other forms of sensory stimulation.
Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, added that the exhibition will be shaped around three main “zones”—Land, Sea, and Sky—that pay tribute to the natural world. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” he said.

Alia Bhatt wore a custom-designed, mint green Sabyasachi sari for the Met Gala 2024. Styled by her long-time stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, Bhatt's sari was studded with real gems and featured a 23-foot-long train in honour of the theme, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’. Bhatt debuted at the 2023 Met Gala donning Prabal Gurung couture. Her outfit followed the event's theme, ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, where she wore a white gown embellished with over 1,00,000 pearls. The intricate embroidery of her gown was executed by artisans in India.
Natasha Poonawalla
Natasha Poonawalla made her appearance at the 2024 Met Gala in custom Margiela designed by the fashion industry's favourite designer of the moment, John Galliano. The Indian heiress paired her look with sky-high platform Christian Louboutins. Previously, Poonawalla made a striking impression at the 2022 Met Gala with her Sabyasachi x Schiaparelli ensemble, perfectly embodying the theme ‘Gilded Glamour’. Few manage to capture the theme as brilliantly as Natasha Poonawalla did when she graced the Met Gala red carpet in 2022, when she wore a custom golden sari designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, paired with a structured bustier from Schiaparelli.
